JET Welcome Back Reception

2015/10/22
On October 22, the JET Program Welcome Back Reception was held at the Consul General’s Official Residence. The reception was an opportunity to celebrate the safe return and future success of JET Program participants who recently returned from teaching English in Japan, and also for local JET alumni to interact with Japan-related organizations, sister city associations, educators and international students.

Consul General Omura opened the program with a speech welcoming the newly-returned JETs. In light of increasing recruitment numbers and the recent addition of Tokyo placements to the JET Program, he also expressed his hope that the new alumni will proactively participate in Pacific Northwest JET Alumni Association (PNWJETAA) activities promoting JET and Japanese culture.

There was then a greeting from Ms. Annie Vuong, PNWJETAA secretary, introducing JET alumni activities, followed by self-introductions from four recent returnees, highlighting their memories of Japan and future career plans. In her toast, Washington State Senator Karen Fraser expressed her gratitude to the Japanese government for their ongoing support of the JET Program. She explained the importance of the program in further strengthening Japan-U.S. relations and shared her hope that the recent returnees will continue to act as a bridge between the two countries.
