Foreign nationals who meet ALL of the criteria below are no longer required to obtain a visa.
  • U.S. citizen or foreign nationals of visa exemption countries (See "the list of visa exemption countries and regions")
  • Short-term stay (less than 90 days)
  • Purpose of the visit is either business affairs, visiting Relatives/acquaintances, tourism
*The visa exempt measure does NOT apply to COE: Certificate of Eligibility holders, who intend to stay more than 90 days or for activities to undertake revenue.

If you are applying for a single-entry visa for tourism purposes, we recommend JAPAN eVISA, which allows you to apply, pay the visa fee, and receive your Japan visa online.

However, online JAPAN eVISA applications are not available for transferring flights, visits to relatives/friends, conferences or business, multiple-entry visa applications, or long-term work or study visa applications (application with COE). For those purposes, please apply for a Regular Visa at the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle if you are a resident of the State of Washington, Montana, or the northern part of Idaho.
 

IMPORTANT: Applicants should only submit an eVisa application OR a regular visa application. DO NOT submit both types of applications at the same time. If you apply both, your application will be rejected.
