Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Seattle area, from March 26 the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle will be offering its services by appointment only.
We are not accepting visa applications at this time except for emergency services for exceptional situations.

On April 1st. 2019, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will open a English Language Hotline for answering general questions about visas from foreign nationals who wish to enter Japan.

Window Hours:

9:00 AM - 11:30 AM, 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM Monday - Friday (except holidays)
No appointment necessary for visa applications
As a general rule, the visa applicant must come in-person with all necessary documents.

Visa Fees:

Visa fees will be collected only at time of pick-up.
Single entry visa: 27 USD
Multiple entry visa: 55 USD
Transit visa: 6 USD
* The above fees do not apply to citizens of countries with which Japan has bilateral agreements.
* Visa fees may vary depending on the purpose of your travel and your nationality. Please refer to the Consular Section.
* If the visa is not issued, no fees are required.
* We take payment in cash only. Please bring the exact amount. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Copies of documents:

The Consulate-General of Japan will not make copies for you. Please bring the original and a photocopy if you want the document back.

Processing Time:

If all requirements are met, most visas are normally issued in 4 – 7 business days. Please note that there are certain cases that require referral to the Ministry in Japan. These cases may take 1 – 2 months.


Jurisdiction:

You may apply for a visa at this Consulate if you live, work, and/or are currently located in Washington, Montana, or Northern Idaho (Idaho County and 9 northernmost counties).
If you are not located within the area covered by this Consulate, please contact the Japanese Consulate or Embassy that processes visas for your area. We may decline visa applications from areas outside our jurisdiction.
