Symposium on Disaster Management

On Friday, February 23rd, the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle hosted the Symposium on Disaster Management at the University of Washington, welcoming Japanese and American experts as lecturers. Nine experts from Japan, including the Hon. Hideki Matsuzaki, former Mayor of Urayasu City; Professor Fumihiko Imamura, Director of International Research Institute for Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University; and Mr. Atsushi Kato, Executive Director of Japan Toilet Labo.; made presentations on their fields of expertise and shared their experiences on the Great East Japan Earthquake and other natural disasters that occurred in Japan. Over 80 representatives from the state, county, and city governments and other related organizations attended.

Later in the evening, in honor of the symposium, the Consul General held a reception at his official residence for those involved.
