On April 25th, the Japanese Language Education Symposium was held at the Official Residence. Consul General Yamada expressed gratitude to Japanese language educators. Dr. Kyle Kinoshita, Chief of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction for Seattle Public Schools emphasized the importance of language education.

During the first symposium session, Ms. Kei Tsukamaki, President of the Washington Association of Teachers of Japanese (WATJ) explained the state and challenges of Japanese language education in Washington followed by a lecture by Mr. Hideki Hara, Director of the Japan Foundation, Los Angeles, called “Global Competence and Business in the Context of Japanese Language Education.”

In the second session, a panel discussion called “Preparing Students for Careers” was held by corporate members and former students of Japanese language.
