2018/5/2

On April 24, at the Consul General’s Official Residence, a Tomodachi Reception was held for U.S. Navy personnel who have been stationed in Japan. The event was the fourth such reception hosted by the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle to build stronger connections between Japan and U.S. military personnel.

During the opening speeches, Consul General Yoichiro Yamada expressed appreciation for the U.S. military personnel, whose presence in the Pacific provides “the regional security and stability that is the basis of [Japan’s] well-being.” Rear Admiral Gary Mayes, Commander of Navy Region Northwest, spoke about the strong partnership and friendship between the U.S. and Japan, and reaffirmed the U.S. Navy’s commitment to this U.S.-Japan security alliance. Navy veteran and Former Commander of the Nisei Veterans Committee Allen Nakamoto then gave a toast to furthering racial diversity in the U.S. Navy and other branches of the military.
In addition to Navy personnel and their spouses, U.S. Coast Guard officials, Nisei Veterans Committee members, and other representatives from local community organizations were also in attendance.
