Japan-Seattle AI Innovation Meetup 8.0 Event
2018/4/18
On Wednesday, April 18, the Washington State Department of Commerce, Innovation Finders Capital, and the Consulate General of Japan in Seattle co-hosted the AI Innovation Meetup 8.0 at the Consul General’s official residence, promoting Japan-U.S. business exchange in the AI sector. At the seminar, 7 local start-ups pitched AI-powered hardware and programming applications to around 17 firms attending from Japan, and later engaged in lively discussions on AI technology in general.

At the following reception, in their opening remarks, Consul General Yoichiro Yamada and The Honorable Kentaro Sonoura, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and member of Japan’s House of Representatives, mentioned the significance of having the event take place in Seattle, a city being called an “AI and cloud computing capital”, while touching on the potential and emerging implications of the technologies. Representing the State of Washington, The Honorable Kim Wyman, Secretary of State, conveyed her appreciation to the Consulate and Mr. Sonoura, reflected on the deep ties between Japan and Washington, and expressed a desire to see continued development of economic relations in AI and other fields.
The April 18th event was the 8th AI Innovation Meetup, which is held quarterly. The Consulate has partnered in 3 meetups so far, including in last October and January, in addition to this event.
