2018/8/1
On July 27, 2018, the 32nd Pre-Departure Orientation and Sendoff Reception for 65 new JET participants was held at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan.

The Pre-Departure Orientation included departure instructions, a Japanese lesson and a lecture on English education in Japan.
At the following Sendoff Reception, local educational stakeholders, community members, business stakeholders, and Pacific Northwest JET Alumni Association (PNWJETAA) members attended and celebrated the new JET participants’ departure.

At the beginning of the reception, Senior Consul Murazawa encouraged the new JET participants in his remarks, stating that he wishes that they can disseminate their experiences in Japan to the world.

Adam Ledyard, President of PNWJETAA, encouraged the participants, saying “JET changed my life. I hope you all will have great experiences in Japan that could change your lives.”
Lastly, Mary Bernson (Director of the East Asia Resource Center, the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington), who has contributed to JET recruiting as an interviewer since the launch of the JET program and has received the 2018 Spring Conferment of Decoration, gave a toast, stating, “Your life in Japan may not always be fun. You might experience homesickness or encounter hardships. However, I hope you will have your own goals and value each and every day, imagining what you will be doing in a few years after you complete the JET program.”

On the next day, 28th, the 65 new JET participants safely left Seattle for Tokyo. After participating in orientations in Tokyo, they will work for schools and administrative agencies all over Japan.
