Visit to the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle by High School Students from Okinawa in the Kakehashi Project

On November 1, students from Naha International High School in Okinawa visited the Seattle Consulate as participants of the Kakehashi Project.
Consul General Yamada welcomed the students and spoke on Seattle-based industries as well as the history of Seattle’s Nikkei (Japanese Americans). Maya Oshiro, Vice President of Okinawa Kenjinkai of Washington State, also addressed the students, and talked about the Kenjinkai’s activities. Lastly, the Consulate staff explained consular office work and the relationship between Japan and Washington State.
The Kakehashi Project aims to promote an understanding of Japan in areas such as Japanese politics, economy, society, culture, history, and diplomatic policy. The implementation of the project is also intended to strengthen the foundation for Japan’s diplomacy by encouraging the dissemination of information on Japan’s charms and diplomatic position.
