JET Program Welcome Back Reception 2018

On October 29, the JET Program Welcome Back Reception was held at the Official Residence.
 
Consul General Yamada and JET Program returnees

 
 
At the reception, JET Program recent returnees and alumni, local Japan-related community groups, prefectural associations (kenjin-kai), sister city organizations, educational institutions and many others attended. They celebrated the safe return and future endeavors of the JET Program returnees.

At the beginning of the reception, Consul General Yamada welcomed the recent returnees and expressed his hopes that they will remain good friends of Japan. Following the Consul General’s speech, Pacific Northwest JET Alumni Association (PNWJETAA) President Adam Ledyard presented a greeting, welcoming the returnees and speaking on PNWJETAA’s activities.
 
 


Ms. Carolyn Peterson from Japan-America Society of the State of Washington then talked about their program, “Japan in the Schools.” Afterwards, JET Program returnees spoke of their experiences in Japan and the audience enjoyed their stories. Lastly, Ms. Mary Hammond Bernson, Former Director of the East Asia Resource Center, Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, gave greetings. She said to the returnees that they are all successful educators, and gave a toast, expressing a hope that they will all continue contributing to better mutual understanding between Japan and the United States in the future.
