JAPAN-Seattle AI Innovation Meetup 12.0 Event

2019/5/2

On April 17, the Washington State Department of Commerce, Innovation Finders Capital, and the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle co-hosted the AI Innovation Meetup 12.0.
Seattle local start-ups pitched AI-powered hardware and applications to firms attending from Japan and were followed by a networking opportunity. The Japanese delegation recognized Seattle as a region with a leading AI sector and was glad for the occasion to connect with local start-ups, emphasizing the importance of creating new partnerships.
At the reception immediately following the pitch event, Consul General Yoichiro Yamada’s opening remarks touched on the importance of collaboration, vital to US-Japan firms, especially in Seattle as a hub for AI technology. He also called for a holistic approach towards the relationship between AI and humankind, particularly concerning its effects on privacy and political freedom.
Representing the State of Washington, Dr. Lisa Brown, Director of the Washington State Department of Commerce, reflected on the historical ties between Japan and Washington State and expressed her desire to see the continued development of economic relations in AI and other fields.
The April 17 event was the twelfth AI Innovation Meetup, which is held quarterly.
