Seattle CleanTech Innovator Pitch Session

On June 25, the Washington State Department of Commerce, Innovation Finders Capital, CleanTech Alliance, and the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle co-hosted the Seattle CleanTech Innovator Pitch Session. During the session, six of Seattle’s local tech start-ups pitched their ideas and products to a Japanese delegation that consisted of members from Japan’s three leading corporations and organizations: Hazama Ando, Mitsubishi Corporation, and JETRO.
During the event, the Washington State government explained the state’s latest development of policies on clean energy and stressed the importance of partnerships between various entities such as governments, large corporations, start-ups, research institutions, and utility facilities.
In the opening remarks of the reception, Consul General Yamada mentioned Washington State’s efforts to protect the environment as they recently enacted the Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA). He also spoke on the current situation of climate change and concluded his remarks by stating the importance of clean technology development to solve environmental problems.
After his speech, Mr. Charles Knutson, Senior Advisor of Innovations and Global Affairs at the Office of Governor Jay Inslee, and Mr. Tom Ranken, CEO of the CleanTech Alliance, spoke of the hopeful expectations for the development of clean energy, energy efficiency, and for celebrating the unique technological partnerships between Japan and Washington State. Lastly, Prof. Daniel Schwartz, Director of the Clean Energy Institute at the University of Washington, proposed the toast.
