Japan-Seattle AI Innovation Meetup 13.0 Event

On July 24 the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle, the Washington State Department of Commerce, Innovation Finders Capital, JETRO and Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe co-organized Japan-Seattle AI Innovation Meetup 13.0. 

Nine Seattle local start-ups pitched AI-powered hardware and applications to the Japanese delegation of 11 Japanese companies and were followed by a networking opportunity. The Japanese delegation, in their opening remarks, spoke on the development of start-ups in Japan’s AI industry and the significance of establishing business partnerships between Japan and the U.S. 

At the reception following the pitch event, Consul General Yoichiro Yamada’s greetings touched on the business environment of Seattle & Washington State, and emphasized the importance of partnership in AI between Seattle and Japan under today’s condition. Representing the State of Washington, Chris Green, Assistant Director of the Washington State Department of Commerce, spoke on the several similarities between Seattle and Japan. Considering the expanding capacity of AI technology, he expressed his desire to see the continued development of close partner relations between Japan and Washington State in the future.

 Prof. Magdalena Balazinska, Director of eScience Institute at the University of Washington, proposed the evening’s toast.

The July 24th event was the thirteenth AI Innovation Meetup, which is held quarterly.
