Japan Week at Bellevue College
2019/10/12
Japan Week 2019 was held at Bellevue College on September 28, and more than 8,000 people attended.
Over 50 different groups were present and introduced guests to different aspects of Japanese culture. Workshops featured cooking dango, Japanese history, and traveling to Japan. Musical performances of singing, taiko and koto filled the campus grounds and martial artists demonstrated naginata and kendo.
During the event, the Consulate had a booth featuring the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and promoting travels to Japan. We also had three seminars: Furoshiki Wrapping, which gave a hands-on approach to teaching participants how to use furoshiki; Samurai Undressed, which demonstrated and explained samurai armor; and a JET program & MEXT government scholarship information session.
Japan Week has steadily grown since its first year in 2017, and we look forward to watching it continue to grow!
