On June 23, Consul General Iyori and Mrs. Iyori hosted a U.S. Navy Tomodachi Reception at the Official Residence for U.S. Navy personnel, elected officials, and other guests. In his opening remarks, Consul General Iyori reflected on the tireless efforts of U.S. Navy sailors during Operation Tomodachi, the joint Japan–U.S. military response to the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011, and expressed his hope that the Tomodachi Reception would further strengthen friendship between Japan and the United States. Rear Admiral Jonathan Townsend, Commander of Navy Region Northwest, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the Japan–U.S. alliance, and The Hon. Lisa Wellman, Washington State Senator, offered a toast to the longstanding economic and cultural bonds between the two countries.
