Consul General Yamada awarded the Honorary Citizen of the State of Washington
2020/7/31
On July 30, Consul General Yoichiro Yamada received a certificate noting his conferment as “Honorary Citizen of the State of Washington” by Governor Jay Inslee, "in recognition of his commitment to promoting deep and meaningful relationships between citizens of Japan and Washington in his role as Consul General of Japan in Seattle." The certificate was signed by Governor Inslee on July 8, and presented to him by Mr. Schuyler Hoss, Director of the International Relations and Protocol of the Offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor on July 30.
Thanking Governor Inslee for the honor, CG Yamada made the following comment: "I am deeply grateful and honored by this recognition given on the conclusion of my tour of duty as Consul General. I take it as recognition of the teamwork of my office's wonderful staff, and also as recognition of collective works we have undertaken in cooperation with the Japanese community, Japanese American community, and immigrant communities. Throughout my assignment in Seattle over the past three years, I have felt the support and understanding of the Governor, state officials and legislators in our efforts to bring Japan and the State of Washington closer and more meaningful at all levels, for which I am truly grateful. The last three years has been a tremendous experience for myself and my family, and we have learned many important things from American friends. Though we are leaving in a week’s time, I hope to continue doing what I can to connect the State of Washington and Japan.”
