Media Relations and Public Outreach Specialist

3 Working Conditions
Working hours: 8:45 to 17:30 (with a one-hour break), Monday to Friday (except statutory holidays)
4 Expected Start Date
January 4, 2022
* Two-year contract until March 31, 2024.
* The first three months is a probation period for your employment.
* Contract renewal is based on an agreement from both sides.
5 Qualifications
- In possession of US citizenship or permanent resident status in the US
- Must have a valid photo ID
- Be able to provide security clearance certificate (i.e. criminal record check)
6 Core Responsibilities
- Updating the Consulate’s website and creating/sharing Japan-related social media, including maintaining the Consulate’s Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts
- Writing and editing of speeches and reports
- Distribution and creation of public relations information and materials
- Receiving and responding to external inquiries by phone and email
- Providing administrative support necessary to help fulfill the Consulate’s role in promoting Japan and its culture
- Other tasks as assigned by management
7 Job Requirements
1) Knowledgeable about Japan and its culture
2) Have a strong interest in promoting the attractive features of Japan (Experience in the area of public relations is an asset)
3) Native-level fluency of both Japanese and English
4) Well-acquainted with software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
5) Have knowledge and experience in website creation / editin
6) Knowledgeable about social media and public outreach
7) Strong planning, multi-tasking, and project management skills
8) Able to contribute to the success of the organization, and is a team player
9) Must be able to work overtime on occasion
