【1/11 Update】Border Enforcement Measures ("Continuation of the strengthened quarantine measures for coronavirus variant Omicron (B.1.1.529)”)

On January 11, 2022, the Government of Japan announced to continue the strengthened quarantine measures effective from November 30 at 00:00 (JST) until the end of February, 2022, in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The measures are as follows:

On December 28, 2021, the Government of Japan announced to continue the strengthened quarantine measures effective from November 30 at 00:00 (JST) for the time being, in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The measures are as follows:


(On November 29, 2021, the Government of Japan announced strengthened quarantine measures effective from November 30 at 00:00 (JST) to December 31, in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.)

1 Foreign nationals arriving from the United States or other designated countries/regions will be denied entry to Japan from November 30 at 0:00AM (JST) unless there are "Exceptional Circumstances."

Foreign nationals who intend to visit Japan under one of the "Exceptional Circumstances" categories need to apply for a visa even if it is for a short-term visit. Please read “Eligibility to Enter Japan” at the below website.

2 The relaxation on post-arrival quarantine measures for fully vaccinated travelers, announced on November 5, will be also suspended. Those who are arriving in Japan from the United States after December 1 at 0:00AM, regardless of vaccination status, are required to quarantine for 14 days after entry into Japan at places such as their own residence.
