Greeting from Consul General IYORI Makoto

2023/10/24

Consul General IYORI Makoto

My name is Makoto IYORI, the newly appointed Consul-General of Japan in Seattle.

I served in Washington, D.C. from 2019 to 2020, and this is my second posting in the USA. I am incredibly excited and delighted to serve in a place like Seattle, which has such a long, deep, and diverse friendship with Japan. I pledge to do my best to deepen and strengthen this bond.

Currently, there are approximately 17,000 Japanese citizens residing in the States of Washington, Montana, and Northern Idaho. The Consulate-General of Japan will continue to provide essential information and support to ensure their safety and peace of mind.

This region has a history of over 100 years of Japanese immigration. Currently, more than 90,000 Japanese Americans live in this region, and many of them play important roles in society. By cherishing the historical bonds between Japan and Japanese American society, I look forward to collaborating with those of Japanese descent to further relations between both countries.

The greater Seattle area is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan regions in the US. The region has become a hub for the aerospace industry. In recent years, it has contributed to the innovation of IT (Information Technology) and other advanced industries, attracting researchers and technical talent from around the world and becoming a global leader in the fields of artificial intelligence and cloud computing. We will continue to support Japanese companies in further strengthening economic relations.

We also aim to introduce the attractions and culture of Japan to the local people and promote grassroots exchange to strengthen our relations.

I would appreciate your continued guidance and cooperation and look forward to working with all of you.

October 24, 2023
