【Event Report: Japan Fair 2022】
2022/7/15
On July 9, the annual Japan Fair 2022 took place, celebrating and promoting Japanese culture. This year, Japan Fair was live streamed via YouTube and combined pre-recorded and live content, including contests, guest speakers and special guest appearances from the U.S. and Japan. Mr. Allen Nakamoto, Japan Fair 2022 Co-Chair, began the event with his opening remarks. Consul General Hisao Inagaki then spoke on the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and a moment of silence followed. Consul General later gave his greetings to Japan Fair participants.
MC Tomo Hoku Angie kept the audience thoroughly entertained during the live feed with her vast array of props and costumes. A variety of Japan-related content was presented throughout the event, which included broadcasts from famous Japanese landmarks, performances by elementary school children, cooking demonstrations, and an origami lesson by Consul General Inagaki. The full program of the live webcast can be viewed here.

Various audience-participation programs were also offered, including the haiku, bento, kimono, and cosplay contests. There were 197 entries from 32 countries for the haiku contest, over 90 photos for the kimono gallery, 28 submissions for the cosplay show, and 70 entries for the bento challenge from all over the world. The winners for each contest were selected from among the many outstanding entries after a rigorous judging process. There was also a real-time quiz game for the participating attendees; those who answered all three quizzes correctly during the event were recognized.
