The Consulate is seeking a well-qualified individual to serve as General and Political Affairs Assistant. This individual will perform a variety of administrative tasks, including but not limited to correspondence and report drafting, scheduling, and event planning. Excellent command of written and spoken English, office software skills, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate in response to a variety of complex assignments are required. This individual will also be expected to draft, edit, and proofread English-language media, including letters, social media posts, speeches, and website content. Japanese language ability and experience with Japanese culture are preferred but not required.
This position is expected to start on July 13, 2026.

- Expected Start Date
- Two-year contract until March 31, 2028.
- The first three months will be a probationary period for employment.
- Contract renewal is based on an agreement between both parties.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent command of the English language, with editing experience
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent planning skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing demands
- Able to focus in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Able to work with and manage sensitive information
- High-level proficiency with office software (including Microsoft Office and Teams)
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency in the U.S. (The Consulate will not provide U.S. visa sponsorship).
- Must have a valid government-issued photo ID
- Able to provide a security clearance certificate (i.e. criminal background check)
- Able to take and pass a drug test
- Core Responsibilities
- Monitor and research topics related to politics in Washington, Montana, and Northern Idaho
- Draft and edit summary reports in English and/or Japanese (depending on language ability)
