The Consulate is seeking a well-qualified individual to serve as Economy, Culture and Information Affairs Assistant. This individual will support the Consulate's cultural activities through a variety of tasks, including liaison and coordination with local cultural organizations and educational institutions, administrative support for Consulate-hosted events, appointment scheduling, and report drafting, and management of Consulate cultural materials.
 
Excellent command of written and spoken English, strong office software skills, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate in response to a variety of complex assignments are required. This individual will also be expected to draft, edit, and proofread English-language content, including correspondence, social media posts, and website materials. Japanese language ability and experience with Japanese culture are preferred but not required.
 
This position is expected to start on September 16, 2026.

3. Working Conditions
    
Working hours: 8:45 to 17:30 (with a one-hour break), Monday to Friday (except holidays). This is an in-person role. Occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
 
    Salary range: Full time
                        $22 - $33 an hour  (Depending on experience)
 
    Benefits: Medical insurance (80% premium paid by employer)

                  PTO

    Holidays: U.S. Holidays + selected Japanese holidays
 
4. Expected Start Date
    Date: September 16, 2026
    - Initial contract through March 31, 2029
    - The first three months will be a probationary period.
    - Contract renewal is subject to mutual agreement.
 
5. Qualifications
    - Bachelor’s degree
    - Excellent command of the English language, with writing and editing experience
    - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    - Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage competing demands
    - Demonstrated knowledge of Japanese culture, with the ability to communicate and promote it effectively to diverse audiences.
    - Able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
    - Able to work with and manage sensitive and confidential information
    - High-level proficiency with office software, including Microsoft Office and Teams
    - U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required. (The Consulate will not provide U.S. visa sponsorship).
    - Must possess a valid government-issued photo ID
    - Must be able to provide a criminal background check upon request
    - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening
 
6. Core Responsibilities
    - Coordinating and maintaining relationships with cultural organizations, educational institutions
    - Drafting and editing summary reports in English and/or Japanese (depending on language ability)
    - Managing relationships, liaising with guests, and facilitating meetings.
    - Participating in external events and ceremonies
    - Attending seminars and compiling reports
    - Assisting with the planning and execution of events hosted by the Consulate
    - Maintaining and updating the Consulate's website
    - Other administrative tasks as assigned
