Relaxation on quarantine period for those who are returning to Japan or entering Japan from abroad (Border Enforcement Measures(25))

2022/1/14

1. Relaxation on quarantine period after arrival in Japan

The 14-day quarantine after arrival in Japan is reduced to 10 days for all travelers from countries/regions, including the United States, where Omicron strains (B.1.1.529 strain) are dominant.
A health follow up and restriction of use of public transportation during quarantine is also reduced to 10 days.

This new quarantine measure effective from January 15 at 00:00 (JST), 2022, also applies to those who have already entered Japan.
However, it does not apply to travelers from countries or regions where mutant strains other than Omicron are dominant.

Please note that all travelers, including Japanese nationals, from Washington, Montana, and Idaho state are still subject to a 3-day mandatory quarantine at specific facilities designated by the chief of the quarantine station. After leaving the facilities, they are required to self-quarantine at home or hotels arranged by themselves for the remaining days of the required 10-day quarantine.

Note: As of January 14, 2022, the United States is not listed as a country where mutant strains other than Omicron are dominant.
