The 41st Annual Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival

The 41st Annual Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival was held from Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Seattle Center. During the three days of the event, various aspects of Japanese culture were demonstrated and exhibited by groups from around the region. This year included a special performance of English rakugo from Master Kanariya Eiraku, in addition to booths where participants could play the Japanese game of go, try on yukata, or purchase imagawayaki.

Timed to coincide with the festival, the Japan Foundation’s traveling exhibit “Yakishime” was presented from Tuesday, April 18 to Wednesday, May 1 at the Seattle Center. Also, on Friday, April 22, Japanese language learners from local high schools displayed the results of their daily practice at the 33rd Washington State Japanese Speech and Skit Contest.

The many participants and visitors fully enjoyed the festival, and the events brought great opportunities for them to get closer to Japanese culture.
