Special Guest Lecture by Prof. Matake Kamiya and Prof. Yoichiro Sato: “Focus on Japan: Regional Dynamics in East Asia” at the University of Washington, Wed. November 14

On November 14 (Wed.), from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, the Consulate General of Japan in Seattle, along with the National Bureau of Asian Studies and the University of Washington Jackson School, Japan Studies Department is co-organizing a special lecture by Professor Matake Kamiya of the National Defense Academy of Japan and Professor Yoichiro Sato of International Strategic Studies at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. Both professors have been invited to Seattle and will speak on the theme of regional dynamics in East Asia with a focus on Japan.
This film is based on true events during the large-scale volcanic eruption in 2000 which forced all residents of Miyakejima, Izu Islands to evacuate to Tokyo, except one dog, left behind and separated from his family. This film reminds us of the importance of emotional connections, family bonds, love of the homeland, and the will to live. In Japanese with English subtitles.
