Special Event: Oshogatsu in Olympia on Saturday, January 26 in Olympia, Washington

The Olympia-Kato Sister City Association and the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle are jointly presenting an event showcasing Japanese culture in the Washington State Capitol, Olympia. The event, Oshogatsu in Olympia, will be held on Saturday, January 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Olympia Center in Olympia Washington.

At Oshogatsu in Olympia, from 12 noon a special sakura ceremony will be held. This ceremony is part of the Centennial Celebration of the Gift of Trees from Japan to the United States, and is the latest in a succession of sakura celebrations that began last year and were held in various cities throughout the state of Washington and the United States.

Visitors to Oshogatsu in Olympia can visit the Consulate booth and find an abundance of information on Japan, try on traditional Japanese armor known as yoroi and meet the therapeutic robotic seal, Paro.
